Horse training, breeding, overnight stabling and natural horsemanship techniques. Wellborn Quarter Horses is an oasis for horses and their humans. We offer natural horsemanship and resistance-free training and lessons. Here at the home of the Horse Whisperer of Wellborn, Joe Schomburg, you will not find whips, spurs, tie-downs, side reins or other mechanical devices. Horses are taught bravery and courage, respect for the human, and most of all, to follow a light feel.

We have a heated waiting room with viewing glass windows (water cooler and restroom), a 60 X 90 indoor riding arena, a 250 X 150 outdoor riding arena, a regulation size round pen, twenty-three 10 X 12 stalls, and 30 acres of pasture turnout (re-seeded in native grasses). Stalls cleaned daily and horses brought into their stalls twice daily for feedings. Only 5 miles from Moraine View State Park (with over 15 miles of riding trails). We also offer a horse motel service (overnight boarding) for frequent travelers who need to get off the road and rest themselves and their horse. We offer them our newly decorated, cozy apartment and a clean, freshly bedded stall for their horse before continuing on their journey. We also assist the scouts in obtaining their horsemanship badge requirements.

My business is centered around a fun and professional educational environment with clients ranging from 5 years old to 60. I offer hunter, western, and saddleseat lessons, as well as showmanship and equitation. My lesson horses are the best! They are all Arabians or Half-Arabians. All levels are welcome. A typical lesson entails getting out your horse, proper grooming, wrapping legs, tacking up, riding, and putting your horse away. Therefore, the basics are learned in horsemanship as well as riding. More advanced riders tend to fit in more riding time and ride harder horses, working on patterns, collection and extension, bending and flexing, headsets, transitions, leg yielding, lead changes, and riding without stirrups.

Lessons are safe, private, one hour long, and $40 each (as of June 2009). Long pants and some sort of boot with a heel are required. Minors are required to wear a helmet, which I will provide unless you'd like to buy your own. Everyone must sign a liability waiv
