Show quality APHA horses. Our ranch is owned and operated by Don, Tammy, and Todd Carello. Painted Black Horse Ranch sits on 85 acres of pastures, hills, trees, and creeks in the small town of Republic, located in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which is surrounded by the Great Lakes.

We have been in the horse industry since 1973 and have been breeding show quality paint horses since 1992. We specialize in breeding homozygous and informative black tobianos without sacrificing quality for color. We breed for size, conformation, pedigree, disposition, and color to halter and then go on to make great performance horses. We have produced winners and point earners in almost every discipline. We have assembled a small band of select mares whose bloodlines include the following:
•Tardy Too
•Jackie Bee
•Sonny Dee Bar
•Bonanza
•Emphasis
•Supertrain
•Jetalito
•Poco Bueno
•Dixies War Drum
•Mighty Tink
•Triples Titan

Shimmering Moon Farm is a quality horse training and breeding facility specializing in Arabians and Thoroughbreds.

We breed Arabians for temperament and rideability. Arabians have the bad reputation of being hot, pretty, and unmanageable. At Shimmering Moon, this is not our goal. We want horses that are a pleasure to ride, not leave us face down in the dirt. As we get older, the falls get only harder.

This is also the goal with the rest of our sale horses. Our sale horses have been here a minimum of six months. With one of our most recent sales, the Thoroughbred had lived here for five years. We want to match the rider to the mount. We emphasize quality. We will not sell you a horse that does not fit your ability.

We also can train your horse for you. In our training programs, we emphasize groundwork, safety, and forming a bond with the horse based on respect and trust.

Our farm also offers riding lessons.
